Rob Roy defeated East Kilbride Thistle 2-0 in a friendly at Merkland Astro Complex this afternoon (17/7/10).
East Kilbride suffered an injury blow in the 8th minute when keeper John Murdoch was injured in a collision with a Rabs forward and was forced to leave the field after treatment and was replaced by Ryan Mailey. First real chance fell to Rob Roy but Upton was unable to make contact with an inviting Feroz cross in front of goal, In the 20th minute Sinclair saw his flick kicked off the Thistle goal-line then just before the break Feroz sent his effort wide and the half ended blank
Rabs made nine changes at half-time and it only took them a minute to take the lead with Michael Hughes netting from close range. Thistle were matching the Kirky side and substitute keeper Scott Wilson did well to stop a netbound shot from Jamie Stewart.
In the 70th minute Muir had a free-kick blocked then a minute later Mailey did well to save a Hughes header. In the final ten minutes Rabs were in control with Hughes firing past after good leading up play from Zok. With five minutes remaining Rabs doubled their lead when Thistle defender Templeton turned a Zok cross past his own keeper. In the dying embers of the match Rabs could have added to their tally, McGregor crashed a shot against the bar, Hughes failed to make contact with a Gow free-kick, then Gow and Tweedie both had efforts blocked as Rabs ran out 2-0 winners in what was a decent work out for both sides. |
