Rabs made a number of changes for their visit to Townhead Park. In came Lindsay, McVey, Adam and Ohakam.
It was Rabs who were quickest out of the traps with Lindsay then Bradley testing keeper Fahey in the early action. Nock came more into the game with Pierce firing wide. On a counter attack Diack brought out a full stretched save from Fahey from the corner Bradley hammered the ball against the base of the upright then from a Bradley cross Adam headed just wide.
In a spell of home pressure McMenamin had an impressive run at goal but his finishing let him down before Pierce just failed to get on the end of a Smith cross. Nock's pressure paid off however when they took a 33rd minute lead, Johnstone crossed from the left into the Rabs goalmouth where Scott Anson out-jumped the visitors defence to head past Robertson. The Ayrshire side could have doubled their lead minutes later when McKnight's 30 yard free-kick came close.
Connolly and Hanvey clashed out on the left wing and were issued with a warning from Referee Napier. Five minutes before the break Robertson made a good punching save from Hanvey, the ball was sent up field, then stemming from a throw-in Ohakam passed the ball to Jordan Smith who sent a well placed shot into the corner of the net to send the sides in at the interval all square.
Half-Time; Cumnock 1 v Rob Roy 1.
The match was temporarily held up five minutes into the second half while stewards removed a male streaker from the field of play and escorted him out of the ground.
Meechan had a good effort taken low by Fahey then Smith flashed a shot over the bar from close range after the Cumnock defence failed to clear a 30 yard Connolly free-kick then at the other end Pierce fired over the bar when in a good scoring position.
Rabs made a double substitution on the hour mark with Lindsay and Adam making way for Easton and Frye. Rabs snatched the lead in the 75th minute when Fahey could only block a shot it fell to Steven Meechan who stroked the ball into the vacant net.
In the final period Cumnock pounded the Rabs defence with substitute Bradford back-heeling into the side netting and Robertson heading wide of the target. The Adamslie Park side were reduced to ten men in the 88th minute when Connolly picked up his second yellow card of the afternoon for a foul on McMenamin and was sent off.
Rob Roy survived the pressure with Ohakam a tower of strength in the heart of the defence to take all three points back up the road and into fourth league spot.
Full Time; Cumnock 1 v Rob Roy 2.
Verdict; A hard fought contest with Rabs just deserving the win and all credit to them for some dogged defending when under late Nock pressure.
Ref Watch; Referee Craig Napier was far too whistle happy and overly fussy throughout. Not a good afternoon's work by the whistler. Flashed 5 yellow cards and one red, probably all merited.
