With international clearance secured Rabs fielded ex St Albans player Jackson Ohakam, also in the Rabs starting eleven were ex Ardrossan Winton Rovers pair Findlay Frye and Scott Adam.
There was little between the sides in the early stages then following three corners in quick succession Rabs grabbed the lead when Frye sent a quick free-kick to McVey to cross for Iain Diack to slot the ball into the net. The more experienced Rob Roy side kept up the pressure, Easton had a free-kick headed away by Fxio then keeper Sommerville saved a low Adam shot after the striker was sent through on goal by Frye.
Sommerville did well to take an Easton cross in a crowded goalmouth then a minute later Adam had the ball in the net only to be denied by the assistants flag for offside in what was a close decision. Rabs should have increased their lead in the 40th minute when Diack collected an Easton cross but his finishing was weak giving Sommerville an easy save. The Vale keeper did well a minute later when he cut out a Bradley cross with Adam ready to pounce.
A minute before the break Bradley fired wide from the left after a good passing movement, then on the half-time whistle Rabs were awarded a penalty kick when Adam went down in the box after a clumsy challenge, Willie Easton squeezed the spot kick past Sommerville despite a good effort by the keeper to keep it out.
Half-Time; Rob Roy 2 v Rossvale 0.
Rabs made a half-time change with Gormley replacing Easton. First chance of the half fell to Rabs with Sommerville making a good stop from Diack after Gormley's shot was blocked. Gormley had a decent 20 yard effort taken by Sommerville at the second attempt, then on the hour mark Rabs increased their lead when Scott Adam turned in the box before sending a low shot into the net.
Rossvale pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute when Graeme Dempsey sent a 25 yard free-kick over the outstretched arms of home keeper Terry and under the bar. The goal gave Vale confidence and for a spell Rabs were made to defend.
As the half wore on Rabs always looked likely to add to their tally, keeper Sommerville who was having an outstanding game made a great save from McAleenan. With 20 minutes remaining Rabs made their second substitution with Coakley on for Diack.
A further home goal always looked like coming and it did in the 74th minute when Jackson Ohakam sent a looping header into the net from a perfect Gormley cross. McDermott had a chance for Vale but shot over the bar. Rabs made their final substitution in the 78th minute when Murray came on for Frye. In the closing minutes Connolly saw his strike kicked off the line and Gormley fired inches wide of the post.
Full Time;- Rob Roy 4 v Rossvale 1.
Verdict;- A deserved win by the more experienced Rob Roy team against a lively Vale side who must thank the display from keeper Scott Sommerville for keeping the score at a reasonable total.
Ref Watch;- Ref Mark McLean called the penalty decision correctly and did keep the lid on things during a tousy spell in the second half but was too inconsistant with his decisions for the liking of the spectators.
