Rabs made a couple of changes after last week's Scottish Cup exit with Sheridan and Lennox replacing Maxwell and Wardle who were on the bench new signing from Hamilton Accies Stuart Mills was also listed as a substitute.
Rabs started strongly with both Lennox and Murray heading over the bar in the first few minutes then at the other end McLean send a header inches high. One time Rabs keeper Dean Sexton did well to cut out a low Anderson cross and brought out a great stop to prevent Feroz from putting Rabs ahead.
In the 21st minute Bell was forced to tip over a Forbes volley but generally it was the visitors who were seen as the attacking force, In a goalmouth scramble Sexton was first to the ball to save the day for Frew, Feroz crashed a powerful shot off the bar, Murray following up headed the rebound over.
A minute before the break Feroz headed an Anderson cross which looked like it was looping into the net until Sexton managed to tip the ball against the face of the bar.
Half Time ; Renfrew 0 v Rob Roy 0
Rabs began the second half as the first ended, well on top, MacKay shot wide in the first minute then Sexton who was having a superb match punched a MacKay cross clear with a number of Rabs players waiting. McQuilken sent over an inviting cross but it found no takers.
Rabs made the breakthrough in the 57th minute, Sexton pushed a Feroz drive round the post and from Anderson's resultant corner James Lennox stooped to head home. Rabs then made their first change sending on Maxwell for Sheridan. In a Renfrew raid Quigley fired over then a timely Maxwell tackle prevented Forbes from having a clear run at goal.
With twenty minutes remaining Rabs made their second substitution replacing Feroz with McGowan. Murray robbed Currie in midfield and sent Anderson on a run at goal but again keeper Sexton made another reflex save. Rabs increased their lead in the 71st minute when Anderson chased the ball to the by-line before sendin in a cross to the near post where Stephen McGowan, only on the field one minute tucked the ball home.
It was very much one way traffic in the latter stages with the Frew shot-stopper keeping the score respectable, saving a McGowan strike then a Murray's header. Rabs then brought on Mills to make his debut taking off the hard working MacKay.
Both Mills and McGowan had efforts cleared off the line in the final minutes as Rabs ran out comfortable winners.
Full Time; Renfrew 0 v Rob Roy 2.
Verdict; A comfortable passage into the third round for Rabs. Only a brilliant goalkeeping display from Dean Sexton kept Rabs scoring tally to two.
Ref Watch; An easy afternoon for Referee Burns but what he had to do he did it well, A couple of minor flare-ups were dealt with quickly by the ref. A good performance by all three officials.
