With Kevin Bell unavailable Daniel Cawley was between the sticks for Rabs.
Early chances were few and far between, it took Rabs eleven minutes for their first real opportunity with MacDonald firing a free-kick wide, six minutes later Bellshill's Crozier shot past Cawley's upright. Wardle then headed a MacDonald free-kick past the post then at the other end McAnespie broke clear of the Rabs defence but could only send the ball wide of Cawley's left hand post.
Midway through the half Rabs were adapting to playing on an artificial rain sodden surface and were now in control. In the 25th minute Feroz had a shot blocked for a corner and from Anderson's flag kick Wardle had a header stopped on the line by keeper Wilson, minutes later the striker headed Carters diagonal cross over the bar.
Bellshill shocked Rabs in the 42nd minute when they jumped into the lead, a loose ball was pushed back into the crowded goal-mouth, Cawley hesitated the Rabs defence failed to clear and Lorn Gibson stole in to knock the ball home from close range.
Half-Time; Bellshill Athletic 1 v Rob Roy 0.
The late first half goal gave Bellshill confidence with Cameron coming close with a strike from the edge of the box. In the 47th minute Rabs made their first substitution withdrawing Paul McQuilken and sending on Brian Vaugh. It only took the substitute 4 minutes to get his name on the scoresheet when he picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and lashed a left foot drive high past Wilson. Three minutes later Vaugh set Feroz free only to rattle the Bellshill bar with Wilson beaten, Feroz should have put Rabs infront but his final effort from an Anderson pass near to goal lacked power.
Rabs went ahead in the 64th minute when Maxwell swung over a perfect corner from the right for Brian Wardle to power home a header past Wilson. Being behind stung Bellshill into a more attacking mode with both Gibson and McAnnespie coming close. Then with less than 10 minutes remaining Rabs were floored by a Bellshill sucker punch and again it was down to shoddy defending. McVittie's long throw into the Rabs penalty box was only scrambled cleared by the defence as far as Nick Patterson who prodded the ball past Cawley.
The game ended in controversial circumstances when a last minute McKenzie strike whizzed past Cawley's upright, Bellshill claimed it went in and through the net, Referee Ross signaled for a goal but on the advice of his assistant pointed to a goal kick amidst scenes of mayhem.
Full Time; Bellshill Athletic 2 v Rob Roy 2.
Verdict; The only real talking point in the game came in the 90th minute due to the goal or no goal incident. A game which matched the weather, miserable.
Referee Watch; Referee Alasdair Ross had a decent game but depended on assistant Sandy Miller to ' get him out of jail ' in the final minute. The assistant being well placed to view the incident.
