Rabs made a couple of changes from last weeks cup draw bringing in Carberry for the injured Murray with McQuilken replacing Muir in the starting line-up. A milestone was reached by Rabs Johnathon Carter who was making his 100th appearance for Rabs since his re-instatement from Partick Thistle at the beginning of season 2006/07.
Vale made the more likely start with Smith shooting over the bar. Gradually Rabs pulled themselves back into match with McKay testing Vale keeper Carr with a snapshot. The visitors made the breakthrough in the 18th minute when Anderson's cross was spilled by Carr leaving Brian McKay with the easy task of slotting the ball home from close range.
The hard pressed Vale rearguard had no answer to Anderson's pace and it was the tall winger who created Rabs second goal in the 26th minute when he lofted a cross into the home penalty box where Craig Feroz glanced a header past the stranded Carr.
Eight minutes later Rabs increased their lead and effectively put the tie beyond the Alexandria side. Grant Anderson collected the ball just inside his own half, leaving three defenders in his wake and from 22 yards gave Carr no chance with a rocket shot, a goal which will be hard to match all season. Minutes before the break Berry had a chance to pull one back for Vale but was stopped by a well timed McKay tackle .
Half Time; Vale of Leven 0 v Rob Roy 3.
Vale of Leven began the half more positive with Rabs keeper Bell saving from Bowie then Buchanan headed wide when well placed. Bell was called into action again in the 67th minute pushing a Russell around the post. At the other end McGowan's cross was headed inches past the post by McKay then McGowan was unlucky to see his neat flick-on headed off the line. Anderson outpaced the home defence before sending over an inviting cross met by McGowan but his effort was blocked.
As the half wore on Rabs were back in control and at ease with their three goal advantage playing neat passing football. Rabs made their first change in the 78th minute with Muir replacing the hard working McKay. In a final Rabs flurry McQuilken's 25 yard drive was blocked, McGowan and Feroz both rattled the bar with headers then Carr saved from Feroz.
Full Time; Vale of Leven 0 v Rob Roy 3.
Verdict;- Spurred on by a healthy Kirky following, Rabs cruised into the third round with a comfortable victory. Apart from the opening periods of both halves Vale were very much on the back foot throughout with Man of the Match Grant Anderson a thorn in their flesh all afternoon. A deserved 3rd round tie now awaits the Rabs.
Ref Watch;- Referee Andrew Dallas had as a good first half as his second was bad with some of his decisions which could only be described as bizarre. Brandished four yellow cards all warranted.
