Club History

Club History

Rob Roy was founded in 1878 by a group of young men from the Eastside district of Kirkintilloch and was named after a by then defunct Perthshire Curling Club.

Rob Roy are now one of the oldest Scottish Junior clubs still in existence.

At first they played friendly matches, but soon joined the Scottish Junior League and in 1927, to the Scottish Intermediate Association. In 1968 Junior Football was reorganised on a regional basis and Rob Roy joined the Central Region of the Scottish Junior F.A.

The first listed home ground was Smillies Pond or (Coxdale Park) which was used only for the 1878/79 season, followed by a spell playing on a ground in the Broadcroft area until 1889, when the club moved once more, this time to Kelvindale Park,Kelvinside, There they stayed until 1926,  when they relocated for the last time to the present home of Adamslie Park, which prior to that had been the home ground of another local Junior team Kirkintilloch Harp. It was officially opened by Provost John Shanks on 7th August 1926.

The opening cermony of the present pavilion at Adamslie Park was performed by Mr John Porter, President of the Supporter's Club,in August 1955, Provost Hugh Gillies was also present. The cermony was followed by a match consisting of players selected from Rob Roy and Kilsyth Rangers versus a Central League X1.

The 1961-62 season was their finest achievement, winning the Scottish Junior Cup, the Central League Championship, Coronation Cup and the Dumbartonshire Cup.
